Last Saturday, I got off the C train at the Lafayette stop in Fort Greene and walked down Hanson Place toward the Barclay’s Center when I encountered On Point Barber Salon. It seemed like the sort of no-frills hair cut box that you find on every other block in Brooklyn. There’s always a TV with sports on and the shops are open pretty late on weekends so guys can get their lines tightened before going out. But upon review, On Point’s Manchester United theme set it apart. My fiancee and I were headed to a holiday party at a United fan’s apartment (he’s from England so it’s not so bad) and I had to stop and document the interior for my ‘Soccer Barbers of NYC’ collection. My fiancee deemed my voyeurism somewhat invasive and kept walking.
Undeterred, I snapped a few photos. My role is to showcase soccer experiences in NYC, even when they unfold at random barber shops. Last year, I got my haircut at a Juventus barber near the East Village. I’m putting together a hair salon Champions League group.
The barber cloths were red and one of the barbers wore a brand new Anthony Martial #9 jersey as he gave a guy a shape up. The day’s match highlights played on a TV in the back of the room, near a United team photo. A framed club crest hung above a couch.

I hope those guys weren’t holding the scissors when United conceded a late goal to Wolfsburg on Tuesday and crashed out of the Champions League.

No word on why he supports Manchester United. Perhaps he gets his hair cut at On Point Salon, Fort Greene’s Man Utd Brbr […]
